The Editorial Workflow:

The Editorial responsibilities can be broadly classified as follows:

  • Paper Submission

The papers are initially submitted to the journals by the authors. These paper submissions can be through either online websites or email.

  • Editorial Assessment

The Editors check whether the submitted paper strictly follows all the instructions mentioned in the author guidelines. The quality of the paper is not checked at this point.

  • Editor-in-Chief Appraisal

The Chief Editor checks whether the paper is original, new and interesting and the technologies used are modern. If not, the Editor-in-Chief rejects the paper and it is not moved further.

  • The Associate Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief assigns an Associate Editor-in-Chief for handling the peer review. If needed, they are assigned at this stage.

  • Invitation to the Revierws

The Editor sends invitations to the selected reviewers for reviewing the papers with the date mentioned in it. The reviewers can accept or reject the invitation. If rejected, further invitations are issued until the required number of reviewers are achieved.

  • Response by the Reviewers

The reviewers accepts or rejects the invitation based on their availability and also by following the reviewer guidelines. If they rejects,it is possible that they might also suggest another reviewer.

  • Conduting the Review

Editors have the complete responsibility to accept or reject the manuscript depending on the reviews obtained from the reviewers. Every manuscript should be treated as a confidential document by the editor. It is prohibited for editors to use any submitted manuscripts in their own research. Editors should have no conflict of interest on the articles they accept or reject. It is the editor’s responsibility to ensure that the peer-review process is conducted to a high standard. Double blind review process must be ensured by the editors.

  • Reviews Evaluation

The Editor considers all the returned papers after the review and checks for a valid reason for returning. If he finds a difference, then he assigns another reviewer to review the same paper.

  • Decision Making

The Editor sends a decision mail to the authors with the relevant comments. The comments may not depend on the types of peer review that the journal operates.

  • Final Steps

If the paper is accepted, it is sent for production. If rejected or sent back for major or minor corrections, the editor must mention what are all the corrections should be made including the suggestions given by the reviewer. At this point, an email should also be sent to the reviewers for letting them know about the outcome of their review. The sent back papers are expected to come back with a new version. In case of minor corrections, the editors can take the role of a reviewer before sending it for production.
